Mehmet Demir
Mehmet grew up in Istanbul and has spent his working life around one building in particular. Since 2012 he has specialized in Topkapı Palace tickets, helping international visitors sort out timed entry, the separate Harem ticket, and what the security check at the Imperial Gate actually involves. By his own count he has guided more than 1,000 travellers toward the right ticket for their trip. His ground is Ottoman history and the practical detail: which ticket includes the Harem, why the palace closes on Tuesdays, and how a self-guided audio ticket differs from a licensed-guide tour. Ask him what makes a Topkapı visit go smoothly and the answer is short. The right ticket, an early weekday slot, and knowing what you cannot photograph before you walk in.
